Pascal Morchain
I discovered social psychology and began experimental research in 1982 with Jean-Pierre Di Giacomo. From 1982 to the early 1990's, I worked on social representations of computer science in social workers. I ran, too, some descriptive studies (one of them for CRESGE-CNRS), particularly in the field of the health (1993-1997). With Georges Schadron, I began to work in the field of stereotypes and social judgement, particularly on social judgeability (Schadron & Yzerbyt, 1991, 1993) that is, on contexts in which people can "judge" others. More recently, Georges Schadron and I elaborated the hypothesis of «Social Determinability» (Morchain & Schadron, 2001; Schadron & Morchain, 2002).
Today, my interests focus on three general topics: (1) perception of entitativity (determinants and consequences of the perception of entitativity), (2) determinability (contexts in which people became more susceptible to influences), and (3) the impact of values on judgments and behaviors (e.g., the impact of values priming on perception of entitativity).
I am a member of the European Association for Experimental Social Psychology as well as the Association pour la Diffusion de la Recherche Internationale en Psychologie (ADRIPS).
